Dust mostly settled in redistricting discussion

Late last week, after months of debate and discussion regarding redistricting, a unanimous decision was reached in Cheyenne.  “We met with the Corporations and Elections Committee in Cheyenne on Wednesday and Thursday and by the end of that meeting a decision was reached that had everyone in agreement,” said Representative Robert McKim.   According to McKim, under the proposed plan the line between House District 21 and House District 22 in Star Valley will be “the Freedom Lane.”  “There is still a little flex line going between Bedford and Star Valley Ranch,” McKim said. “But the line will be south of Star Valley Ranch.”

House District 21 will stretch from Freedom Lane south to Cokeville. House District 22 will move north from Freedom Lane “almost to Jackson and take in Wilson and Daniel but doesn’t include Cora,” McKim said.

Both House District 21 and House District 22 will be nested under Senate District 16.

“We encourage area residents to contact the Corporations and Elections Committee and say they are in support of this plan,” said McKim. “The committee is all in support of it at this point. It is a good compromise for Star Valley to have two house districts and one senate seat.”
But the work is not done, McKim said. From here, the Corporations and Elections Committee will present the proposal to the Wyoming

Legislature for a vote during the 2012 Session of the Wyoming Legislature. The session will begin Feb. 13, 2012 in Cheyenne.

Expressing support for the current redistricting proposal  could help to move it forward and get it passed, McKim said.
