A bleacher-stretching crowd tested the capacity of the Lincoln County Fairgrounds last Saturday as the Star Valley EMT Demolition Derby set the table and the bar for the events in the main arena during fair week.
Spectators were shown approximately three hours of various entertainment from the compact car Figure 8 event to the ATV Fun Run and then multiple heats of full size trucks.
The first event of the evening saw Jason DeCora hold off Casey Frome in the compact division of the Figure 8 race. Erick Stromberg was third.
With only two cars scheduled for the mid-size Figure 8 race, the two racers promised to put on a show as Joey DeCora and Andy Hoopes did just that. DeCora made it a family sweep to win the division.
The ATV Fun Run is an race that has only increased in popularity over the past handful of years with 18 teams competing in this year’s incarnation. More aggressive tendencies and a time limit have made it a welcome addition to the schedule. Larry Stevens & Eddie Harrison won the first heat while Dustin Davis and Jordan Johnson took the cash in the second heat.
For the first time, there were more full size trucks than cars, with two heats of pickup mayhem. In the end, Gunner Gay took the top prize by pushing Del Long out of the arena in front of the main grandstands. Blake Harmon brought home the third place money.
Finally, in the full size car division, two extremely strong running cars dueled it out with Mike Hobby winning the annual prize over Red Clark. Brandon Titensor finished third.
