This is Wyoming's largest deployment in the history of the Wyoming Army National Guard and the largest deployment of Soldiers from the Colorado National Guard since World War II.

The brigade will replace Task Force Lava Thunder, a combination of the Oklahoma National Guard's 45th Fires Brigade and Hawaii's 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. The task force, which included Soldiers from Oklahoma, Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa and Saipan, departed Fort Hood in October 2008.

Soldiers were granted a four-day pass to spend with family before departing for Kuwait and Iraq.
