The debate and discussion with regards to the continuation of the one cent, fifth penny, general excise tax in Lincoln County continues this week. Ordinances in relation to the sales tax have been discussed by each of the municipalities in Star Valley this month.

Students who participate in the archery program at Etna Elementary School traveled to Osmond Elementary  to compete against students involved in the archery program there.

Lincoln County is moving forward with plans for a new detention center. This month the county commissioners signed a resolution “authorizing the expenditure of funds prior to the formation of a joint powers board and the issuance of revenue bonds to finance a detention center project.”

The Evans Construction proposal to expand a gravel pit in the Etna area has been tabled until the January 2010 Lincoln County Planning and Zoning meeting.

Prescription drug abuse is on the rise in Lincoln County, said County Attorney Eric Phillips. The dangers and crimes associated with prescription drugs abuse are something that everyone needs to be more aware of, he said.

Funeral services for Jeremy Kunz, 33, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. in the Kamas, Utah LDS Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Smoot Cemetery.

Lincoln County School District No. 2 is switching from hard copy school board packets to electronic school board packets. The decision to go electronic was made at the September meeting of the School Board.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4797 has long been a dominating force at the Wyoming VFW Convention. The group wrangles a slew of awards each year for its efforts and involvement in the local community.

In a 54-page opinion, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Idaho District Mikel H. Williams concluded that an expansion of Smoky Canyon Mine was “reasonable.” The court opinion was released Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009. However, environmental groups can make an appeal.

On Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, Vicky True was sentenced on four felony counts relating to the embezzling case at the Star Valley Senior Center.  True was sentenced to serve not less than one year or more than four years in the Wyoming State Women’s Prison in Lusk.
