Friday afternoon, June 26, 2009 the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office as well as medical personnel from Star Valley were dispatched to the Snake River area. A report had come in regarding an overturned raft.

The first confirmed case of the H1N1 virus, commonly known as Swine Flu, has occurred in Star Valley. The case occurred in Alpine.

A weekend boating accident has claimed the life of an Idaho man. According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Arthur Craig McCuistion, age 50 from Rexburg, was pronounced dead at St. John’s Hospital in Jackson on Saturday.

A 51-year old Alpine man has been charged in the killing of a fellow Alpine man.  Clair Nichols appeared in Circuit Court in Kemmerer where he was formally charged for the murder of David Reneker acccording to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

The following are obituaries and death notices that appeared in the June 4, 2009 edition of the Star Valley Independent.

On Sunday, May 17 the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a body in Alpine. Deputies responded to the scene and located the body of David Reneker, a 41 year old man from the Alpine area.

After several weeks of anxiety for one of Star Valley’s largest employers, the Simplot Smoky Canyon Mine was given permission by the courts to proceed with their planned expansion.  Litigation brought to bear by environmental groups alleging impact to the surrounding area had thrown the decision into doubt and brought the issue to the front [...]

Though still in the early stages, a new bill from Congress has piqued the interest of citizens in Western Wyoming.
