Star Valley Medical Center has pooled its resources with several other hospitals across the region to purchase a mobile Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system. The new MRI system will be available for use at Star Valley Medical Center Monday through Friday for half a day each day. “The images that the new MRI system provides are unsurpassed in quality, and allow the radiologist to see very subtle pathology with amazing clarity,” said Terry Lemon R.T., Radiology Director at SVMC. According to Lemon, the new mobile MRI unit provides the same quality to the Radiology Department at Star Valley Medical Center as a permanently placed unit would.
“It used to be a valid argument that an MRI located on a mobile truck was inferior to an MRI that was located inside a building,” he said. “However, this is definitely not the case anymore. There is no doubt that if SVMC decided to purchase an MRI and place it within the hospital, we would want to buy the very same MRI that we have right now on the mobile truck because there is currently no higher performing system even available.”
The additional equipment will allow for expanded radiology services at Star Valley Medical Center, Lemon said.
“The SVMC Radiology Department is excited to provide many additional tests that were not done at our facility prior to the purchase of this new unit,” he said.
According to Ken Brough, interim CEO and Star Valley Medical Center, the purchase of the MRI will aid the medical center in continuing to provide the Star Valley Community with excellent care.
“This new MRI machine developed by GE provides the newest and highest level of technology available,” Brough said. “In fact, it is the only one of its kind in the region. We are pleased to be able to upgrade and expand the MRI service offering to the communities of Star Valley, and the surrounding areas.”
According to Brough, it is through Star Valley Medical Center’s membership in The Hospital Cooperative that the purchase agreement was made possible.
The Hospital Cooperative is made up of a group of hospitals in eastern Idaho and western Wyoming.
