Rauterkus named one of Wyoming’s top youth volunteers

Rebel Rauterkus of Freedom, Wyo., a senior at Star Valley High School, will be presented with an engraved silver medallion to recognize her selection as one of Wyoming’s top two youth volunteers for 2012 in The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.  The presentation will take place on Thursday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. during the regularly scheduled school board meeting for LCSD#2.  Rebel is being honored for raising more than $2,000 for the local American Legion Post by buying and raising two hogs, which were then raffled off to the public. As a State Honoree, Rebel also will receive $1,000 and an all-expense-paid trip in early May to Washington, D.C., where she will join more than 100 other top honorees from across the country for several days of national recognition events. Ten of them will be named America’s top youth volunteers for 2012 at that time.

About the award:

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, conducted by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), represent the United States’ largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service. All middle and high schools in the U.S., along with all Girl Scout councils, county 4-H organizations, Red Cross chapters, YMCAs and affiliates of HandsOn Network, were eligible to select a student or member for a local Prudential Spirit of Community Award last November. Two State Honorees—one middle and one high school student—plus a select number of Distinguished Finalists from each state and the District of Columbia were selected based on criteria such as personal initiative, creativity, effort, impact and personal growth.
