Scott A. Banta, 34, of Opal, died in a car accident on  U.S. Highway 30 on Saturday, Aug. 11. The accident took place at approximately 5:30 a.m. nine miles east of Kemmerer.

According to accident reports, Banta was eastbound on U.S. 30 driving a 1993 Ford Taurus Station Wagon when “for reasons unknown his vehicle drifted across the center line going into the opposite lane of travel.”

His vehicle “collided nearly head-on” with a 2012 IHC Model Truck Tractor driven by Terry L. Peterson, 51 of Meridian, Idaho. Margeret Peterson, 60, was also in the vehicle.

According to accident reports, the Banta vehicle impacted the “the truck tractor’s driver side tire” and then “continued down the driver’s side of the Petersen combination where it then impacted the tires on the trailer and came to rest in the eastbound lane of travel.”

“The airbag did deploy in Banta’s vehicle, however, Banta was not wearing his seat belt,” the report stated.
