The Lady Braves began the tournament at 9 a.m. on Friday morning with a win over Jackson, 25-10, 25-14 & 25-14 to advance them into the semi-finals against two-time defending state champion Cody. Trailing 11-17 in the opening game, Star Valley rallied to tie the match at 23, 25, 26 and 27 points apiece before taking the opening stanza, 29-27. The game buoyed the team to their second sweep with additional scores of 25-17 & 26-24. The Fillies went on to lose to Lander in the consolation portion of the bracket, eliminating them from state tournament consideration.
The Lady Braves came back on Saturday afternoon, cruising to their third sweep over Powell, 25-19, 25-12 & 25-12. The last time Star Valley won the regional tournament, they advanced to the state championship match in 2006 before losing to Wheatland. They won the previous four 3A state championships from 2002-2005.
Lander continued their upsetting ways, knocking off home court Lyman to claim third place. Star Valley will play in the opening round of the state tournament on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 3 p.m. where they will face either Rawlins or Glenrock who will play for third and fourth in the 3A East Saturday night. Torrington and Douglas play for the 3A East title.
