The Star Valley High School art and culinary students will host the third annual Art from the Heart event on Wednesday, Nov. 28. The dinner and auction will take place at the Afton Civic Center, starting at 6 p.m.
“All proceeds go to help local families at Christmas,” said SVHS Art Teacher Adam Guild. “We will have a four coarse prime rib dinner and art auction.”
According to Guild, the annual event showcases some of the talents of Star Valley High School students and allows the students a chance to make a difference.
“Lincoln County has the highest unemployment in the state so a lot of our students are in need,” he said. “This event shows students they can use their talents for something besides a grade. The evening is a professional setting. It helps the students look outside of themselves. It is entirely a student run event. They do the programs and the artwork and the meal. Every single thing is done by the students.”
In years past, monies from the Art from the Heart event have been used to purchase Christmas presents and propane to heat homes. The funds have paid for car repairs, food, clothing and basic family needs.
Each year in addition to the student artwork that is for sale, professional artists donate pieces, Guild said.
Tickets for the 2012 Art from the Heart event are $30 each or $240 for a table of eight. Tickets and additional information about the event are available by calling Star Valley High School at 885-7847.
