The Lincoln County School District Board of Trustees voted three to four in renewing Superintendent Jon Abrams’ contract for the 2013-2014 school year. The action took place during the Thursday, Dec. 13 meeting of the school board. Lane Allred made a motion to table the contract renewal decision until the January School Board Meeting. That motion was seconded by Karen Tallerico.
The motion to table received three votes in favor of postponing the decision. Trustee Eileen Merritt and Trustee Tallerico supported the measure with Trustee Allred. Four trustees, Alan Linford, Tyler Brog, Stewart Petersen and Wade Hirschi voted against tabling the decision. “I would not be in favor of tabling this decision,” said Hirschi. “I think we all know how we are going to vote on this at this point.”
Hirschi made a motion to renew the superintendent’s contract for the upcoming school year. That motion was seconded by Petersen.
Those voting in favor of contract renewal were Linford, Brog, Petersen and Hirschi. Merritt, Allred and Tallerico voted against contract renewal.
The renewed superintendent’s contract is effective Dec. 14, 2012 through Dec. 13, 2014. In December 2014 the contract will again be up for review by the school board.
In other school board news, Linford was unanimously elected to serve as chairman of the school board for the coming year.
Brog was elected by the board to serve as vice chairman, receiving four votes.
Tallerico was unanimously elected to serve as clerk.
Merritt was unanimously elected to serve as treasurer.
