The Lady Braves looked confident and efficient in their 48-14 drubbing of the visiting Bear Lake Bears last Friday night. After having to eek out a two-point win in Montpelier and then dropping five games straight on their scheudule the ladies got back on track with some very balanced scoring. Shay Schwab and Kenedey Brog led the team with ten points each while Morgan Dana and Savannah Lucero each had seven. The win moved the team to (2-5) on the season with a road trip in Evanston on the schedule this Saturday.
The Braves could not match the ladies result as the Bears dismantled Star Valley in a 55-30 mauling to claim their first win in Afton since the 2007-08 season. Kasey Keetch and David Weston led the way for the Bears as they scored 14 and 11 respectively. Ryan Gunderson was a force in the paint as he used all of his 6′ 8″ frame to grab the game-high in rebounds and swat away a half dozen shots as well. Cole Critchfield led Star Valley with 11 points but the Braves struggled mightily offensively as they trailed at the break 26-9. The Braves will face the Red Devils on Saturday as well having won the last two times in Uinta County.
The crowd honored three new state championship banners at halftime of the boys game, unveiling the new titles from last March’s double championship run by the boys and girls basketball teams and also this last October’s title from the boys Cross-Country team.
