Public input is welcome during the planning stages of the upcoming Star Valley Front Prescribed Burn, said an officer with the Greys River Ranger District and the Kemmerer Ranger District.
That is the reason for two public meetings scheduled this week in Afton, said Dwayne Gibbons, west zone fire management officer for the two ranger districts of the Bridger-Teton National Forest.
“No decisions as to progression [of the burn] have been made,” Gibbons told The Independent. “We’ll listen to public comment. Through public comments and further analysis, we will determine [the progression].”
The first meeting to which the public is invited is planned for Wednesday, Jan. 15, from 6-8 p.m. at the Afton Civic Center.
The second planning meeting for the public, scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 16 from noon to 2 p.m., will be held at the Greys River District Office, 671 N. Washington Street, in Afton.
In addition to the public meetings, Gibbons said citizens may email or mail concerns or questions into the district office at [email protected] or to Richard Raione, District Ranger, Greys River Ranger District, 671 North Washington St, Afton, Wyo. 83110. Comments should be posted by Jan. 21.
Gibbons emphasized that public input is welcome, and that the burns could begin as early as this fall.
