Afton receives grant for pedestrian bridge

The Town of Afton has received its first grant of 2014. According to Town Administrator Hyun Kim, the funds are for the installation of a pedestrian bridge along the Swift Creek walking path.

“Right now students on the way to Afton Elementary School that use the Swift Creek walking path have to share the Swift Creek Bridge with vehicles,” Kim said. “It is a safety issue for the students. The town applied for funds from the Wyoming Department of Transportation through the Transportation Alternatives Program for funds to create a pedestrian bridge along the walkway.”

According to Kim, the grant does have a match requirement which the Town of Afton will discuss this week. There is also some work to be completed in the project area before the bridge can be installed, he said.

“This is a project we are excited about and we are excited about the fact that the town has received its first grant for 2014,” Kim said. “We are going to be seeking at additional $12 million in grant funding this year for various projects within the town.”
