Tuesday, March 25 the Star Valley Medical Center hosted a groundbreaking celebration on its expansion project.
“The project will be done in three phases with the building of the new ER coming first, and the OR expansion and remodel will come in two subsequent phases,” said Mike Hunsaker, vice president of support services at Star Valley Medical Center. “It is anticipated that the construction will be completed before Oct. 1, 2015.”
According to Hunsaker, the project includes constructing a new Emergency Department, and a new and remodeled Surgery Department. When completed, the hospital expansion will feature an additional 18,000 square feet of “new and remodeled space,” he said.
“The new Emergency Department will provide more exam rooms and patient privacy in the trauma bays that Star Valley Medical Center has not had before,” Hunsaker explained. “The Emergency Room will also provide for a family/doctor meeting room so private discussions can be held in private.”
The expansion will also allow for a pediatric exam room and psychiatric exam room to be included in the Emergency Room, said Hunsaker.
“Better security will be provided for the nursing staff and doctors in the ER too,” he said.
According to Hunsaker, the surgery expansion will include “one additional operating suite for a total of three, and one additional endoscopy suite for a total of two.”
“The project doubles the number of the current pre/post-operative beds and doubles the number of the surgery recovery rooms,” Hunsaker said. “Patient privacy is of utmost concern and will be addressed in the new construction. New outpatient reception and waiting rooms will be added along with a family/doctor meeting room for private conversations.”
According to Hunsaker, the hospital expansion project will help Star Valley Medical Center continue to meet patient needs.
“The goal has always been to reduce the bottlenecking in the current Operating Room situation, as well as provide the current standard of patient privacy that is so important in today’s hospital environment,” he said. “Star Valley Medical Center has continued to add services that will provide our patients the ability to have surgery here at home and be able to recover closer to family members and loved ones without all the travel costs.”
