Alpine looks to relocate food bank

The Town of Alpine will hold its annual clean-up on Saturday, May 17. Volunteers will meet at the Donn Wooden Civic Center at 8 a.m.

In connection with the town clean-up, the Alpine Community Food Bank will be relocated from the Morning Star Baptist Church to Suite B in the Donn Wooden Civic Center.

“We are definitely looking for volunteers to help with this,” said Mayor Kennis Lutz. “This is something that has been in the works for a long time and has finally come together.”

According to Lutz, relocating the food bank will allow for some “additional hours of operation” as well as additional space. The food bank would also like to increase the number of items and services it offers, Lutz said.
“The food bank will still be run primarily by volunteers,” Lutz said.

According to Lutz, the community will meet May 17 and divide into groups to help clean up the town and move food bank items.

Safety vests and garbage bags will be provided by the town. Continential breakfast items will be available.
Volunteers are asked to wear gloves and sturdy shoes or boots. Clean-up routes will be assigned the morning of the clean-up.

According to Town Clerk Pam Poston, clean-up routes will include parks, streets and public areas within the Town of Alpine.
