The 2013 Economic Impact Study of the states airports, completed by the Wyoming Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division, shows that the “Afton Municipal Airport supports 57 initial jobs related to on-airport management, aviation businesses that may operate at the airport, and capital investment.”
According to the study, the local impact of those jobs translates into $1,918,870 in payroll monies with an overall output of $12,602,940.
In addition, the study states that “spending by visitors who arrive in Wyoming via the Afton Municipal Airport supports another five jobs.”
According to the study, the local impact of the additional jobs generated by the airport includes $80,110 in payroll monies with a total output of $362,770.
“Airport and visitor related activities result in contributions to both local and state tax revenues,” the study states. “The Wyoming Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division study estimated that on an annual basis activities supported by Afton Municipal Airport contribute an estimated $473,810 in state and local tax revenues.”
According to the study, in addition “to facilitating air travel to various locations in Wyoming, the airport supported direct flights to 28 different states” in 2013.
Top users of the airport, according to the study, included Aviat Aircraft, Inc., J.R. Simplot, Maverik Country Stores, Star Valley Trout Ranch and the Wyoming Game and Fish.
“In addition to jobs, payroll and output benefits, airport in Wyoming support a variety of uses that contribute to the quality of life for all Wyoming residents and businesses,” the study stated. “Airports in Wyoming are critical to supporting activities such as emergency response, fire fighting insect and predator control, and doctor and patient transport.”
