Lael Hemmert, 36, of Star Valley was arrested Sunday, July 6, in Rexburg, Idaho for alleged kidnapping and assault.
According to information provided by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the department received a call Sunday evening. The caller expressed concern for a woman’s welfare and gave a possible location of where the woman had gone.
Law enforcement officers responded to the given location and located a 32-year-old woman allegedly being held against her will.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office does not release names of victims in sexual assault cases.
The alleged victim was taken to Madison Memorial Hospital.
According to information provided by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Hemmert has been charged with first degree kidnapping, rape and domestic battery. The first two counts are felonies. The third count is a misdemeanor.
As of Tuesday, July 15, Hemmert remained in custody with a $500,000 bond.
A preliminary hearing on the case was held Tuesday, July 15. During the hearing it was determined by the court that enough evidence existed to “bound the case over to District Court.”
An arraignment hearing has been scheduled for Monday, July 21.
