The Town of Thayne is working with local businesses to complete a grant proposal for the Wyoming Business Council. The grant application calls for for a $1.5 million Business Ready Grant and will be submitted in September.
According to Mayor Bob King, the grant funding would be used to move a data center project forward in the Town of Thayne.
“The Business Ready Grant is solely for infrastructure,” said King. “It will be used for water, sewer, electrical, curb and gutter, sidewalks, lighting and in this case, fiber.”
Thayne has been working with Union Station Technology in Indiana on the data center proposal.
According to King, if the initial grant funding comes through from the state, the Town of Thayne will pursue a second grant, a Business Committed Grant, relating to the data center project.
“With that funding we will build a $40,000 square foot building that would house the data center and also have some office space available,” said King. “The Business Committed Grant would be for about $3 million.”
According to King, work on getting a data center in Thayne has been underway for many months.
“There have been many different people and businesses working on this,” said King. “We are excited to see this project moving forward.”
