The Town of Thayne and the Thayne Volunteer Fire Department are working to secure funds to purchase a new pumper truck.
According to Councilman Jim Bartleson, the new truck is an essential item for the department.
“We are looking at purchasing a new pumper truck and having it built,” Bartleson said. “Getting the truck built and fully equiped for the department will cost about $400,000.”
In addition to the pumper truck, the Thayne Volunteer Fire Department is also looking to purchase a new air truck, Bartleson said.
“The air truck is where the firemen fill up their air packs while they are on scene at a fire,” Bartleson said. “We have an air trailer that does that right now. But it needs to be replaced.”
According to Bartleson, the price of the air truck has not been determined at this point.
“The fire department has about $200,000 set aside for a pumper truck,” he said. “The town is working on grants that will bring in some additional funding.”
The fire department is also accepting donations for its new pumper truck, Bartleson said.
