On January 8, 2015, members of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Afton Volunteer Fire Department, Star Valley Search & Rescue, EMT’s and other community members all responded to reports of a vehicle overturned in the Clark’s Barn area of the Salt River.
Over the course of the next several hours a teenage girl was rescued through the efforts of these agencies and several individuals who battled icy water conditions and exposure while trying to keep the victim from drowning. Four individuals; Deputy Jim Lyle, Mont Hess, Logan Wilkes and Scott Walker who initially called in the report.
“We are proud of people we have the Sheriff’s Office but that goes community wide,” said Lincoln County Sheriff Shane Johnson. “We have a lot of first responders in this county that put their lives on the line; that respond to dangerous situations; that are cool under pressure. Just regular citizens that aren’t associated with these groups that also step into those situations and I think that is reflective of our community as a whole.”
These individuals and the agencies were honored on June 23, 2015 as part of the Lincoln County Commission meeting held at the Town of Star Valley Ranch Town Hall.
