The Town of Afton is in the beginning stages of the annexation process in relation to the Gardner Ranch property. The property is located southwest of Afton’s current boundary.
According to Town Administrator Hyun Kim, the owners of the property have petitioned the town for annexation. Now the town is in the process of certifying the petition to ensure that the application for
annexation is complete, he said. Once the application is certified, the town will prepare an impact
report and present that information to the Afton Town Council, Kim said.
According to Kim, formal notice of annexation and a public hearing on the proposal will take place this fall. Once that occurs, the town will move forward with an annexation ordinance relating to the property.
The annexation ordinance must pass three readings before it can officially be adopted by the Town of Afton. If the paperwork can be completed in time, the first reading of the proposed ordinance could be up for council review and discussion during the October council meeting, Kim said. According to Kim, the property owners approached the town about the possibility of annexation to “access the town’s infrastructure, specifically water and sewer.”
