Weekend Sports Wrap: Oct. 2-3

The Braves remained undefeated and the Lady Braves won their fourth match in a row over the weekend as the Fall sports teams get down to the nitty gritty.

• Cross-Country

The SVXC teams have been hard at work over the past ten days but did not race in an event over the weekend. They host the Braves Time Trials on Wednesday, October 7, at Star Valley View Golf Course in Afton beginning at 3 p.m. Racers will run a truncated course of 1.88 miles as opposed to the traditional 3.1 mile distance. Middle school runners will run the same course. The cross-country team will be in Lander on October 14, for the 3A West Regionals. Wonder what the SVXC team motto of “Harambee” means? • Volleyball

The Lady Braves lost the first game on Saturday afternoon to visiting Mountain View but then won three straight to win their fourth consecutive match dating back to September 23. The scores against the Buffalos went as follows: 22-25, 25-21, 25-22 & 25-21. Watch the match here. The freshman team lost in two straight games to Mountain View, 16-25 & 16-25. The junior varsity won in two straight games, 25-20 & 25-16. The volleyball team will be in Pinedale this Friday and Saturday to participate in the 3A West Conference Duals where they will see Cody, Powell, Lander and Lovell from the 3A Northwest District. The next home match will be on October 17, as Star Valley hosts the Jackson Lady Broncs. Wonder how many kills the Lady Braves had against the Buffs? • Football

The Braves used a dominating run game in the second half to score 28 straight points and collect a 42-21 win over visiting Powell on Friday. Watch the game here. The Braves (5-0) will travel to Green River (2-3) this Friday where the freshman team will play the Wolves at 3 p.m. and the varsity will kick off at 7 p.m. Star Valley has won the last three games in the series. The Star Valley Medical Center Pre-Game Show will begin at 6:30 p.m. on SVI Media and Black Mountain Country, 98.7 FM/1210 AM. The junior varsity will host Green River on Saturday morning starting at 11 a.m. at Braves Field. How many yards does Reese Hiibel need to become the all-time leading passer at SVHS?
