SVHS Band earns Superior rating

The top rating for a high school marching band is “superior.” That was honor presented to the Star Valley High School Marching Band at the Wyoming High School Marching Band State Competition Saturday, Oct. 17, at Casper.

Bands are given one opportunity to perform in front of a panel of judges at the Casper Events Center. The SVHS Band, with 64 members, performed Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. With the first practices dating back to August, the band developed the performace throughout the fall months.

“We started piecing together the drum lines during fair week and then the entire band joined us the second week of August,” SVHS Band Director Kurt Sand told SVI Media this week. Sand is pleased with the student’s dedication and work. “This is the highest award a band can receive in the State of Wyoming,” he concluded.

Listen to an interview with Director Kurt Sand Friday morning, starting at 7 a.m. Oct. 23, 2015, on the Black Mountain Morning Show, KRSV 98.7 FM/1210 AM.
