Weekend Sports Wrap: January 7-9

The wrestlers competed at the Richardson Memorial in Brigham City, Utah while the basketball teams hosted Rawlins High School on the home court.

• Wrestling

The Braves varsity placed third at the Richardson Memorial held at Box Elder High School over the weekend as they compiled 164.0 team points. The host school won the event with 205.0 while Bear River was second with 184.5. There were a total of 19 teams at the tournament.

The wrestling team will be in Rexburg, Idaho this upcoming weekend for the Madison Invitational.

The Star Valley Braves Cross-Country team celebrated their fourth consecutive 3A state championship as the banner was officially raised on Saturday.

• Basketball

Lady Outlaws: 43  Lady Braves: 50

The Star Valley girls improved to (4-2) on the season behind 15 points and ten rebounds from  Rylee Burmester. Savannah Lucero scored 14 points while Kenadee Jenkins and Shania Warren added eight and seven points respectively. Warren also notched seven rebounds. Rawlins fell to (4-4) with the loss.

The Lady Braves will be Montpelier, Idaho this Thursday to face Bear Lake High School and then will open up conference play on the road on Friday against the Pinedale Lady Wranglers.

Rawlins: 41  Star Valley: 36

The Outlaws visited Afton for the first time since 1963 and picked up a victory to send the Braves to (5-2) overall for the season. Rawlins got a game-high 22 points from senior Jace Allard while Star Valley was led by 13 points and six rebounds from Jake Pierson. The Outlaws improved to (7-2) with the win.

The Braves will be in Pinedale this Friday to face the Wranglers in their first 3A West contest.
