Star Valley had 12 wrestlers advance to the semi-finals and five them made it to Saturday’s championship as the Braves pulled out in front on Friday with 192.5 team points at the end of Friday’s action.
Gavin Patterson (113), Dane Waldron (120), Brandon Claye (138), Brigg Hoopes (145) and Dylan Brog (170) advanced to the finals where they will compete for an individual 3A state championship.
Waldron and Claye both won titles last year and will be trying to repeat.
Star Valley still has 25 of their 26 state qualifiers in action as things begin on Saturday morning.
In the team race, four-time defending champion Powell is in second with 144.5 points. Worland is third with 125.0 points. Glen rock and Wheatland round out the top five with 96.0 and 80.0 points respectively.
The Star Valley wrestling program is trying to claim their first team title since 2007. The school has finished as the state runner up in 4A three times and 3A twice during that time frame.
