Lincoln County Attorney announces resignation

Friday, March 4 Lincoln County Attorney Joshua Smith announced his resignation, effective April 4, 2016. Smith has accepted the position of City Attorney for Page, Arizona.

“We have some family ties in that area and my wife and I thought that this would be an adventure,” said Smith. “I begin work in Page on April 4.”

From Monday, March 7, the Lincoln County Republican Party has 15 days to submit up to three names to the Lincoln County Commissioners for consideration to fill the vacant Lincoln County Attorney position. Once the names are presented to the County Commissioners, the commissioners have five days to appoint someone to fill the vacancy. The appointed Lincoln County Attorney will serve through 2016. The position will be up for election this year.

“The process of appointing a county attorney to fill the vacancy is actually really quick,” said Smith. “Part of my intent with resigning in the way that I did was to perhaps allow for some time to help with the transition before I leave.” The Lincoln County Republican Party is accepting letters of interest with regards to filling the vacant county attorney seat.
