The Western Conference has taken a beating in Casper losing 13 of 16 first-day match ups but the Lady Braves have done their part as they routed the Newcastle Dogies 62-41 to punch their ticket to the 3A state title game.
Star Valley jumped out to a 14-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back as they won by 21 points.
The lead came from some stingy defense which only allowed 15 first half points as well as some prolific shooting from junior guard Savannah Lucero who lit up the Dogie defense for a career-high 29 points. She hit five three-point baskets in the first half alone.
The team got a game-high 12 rebounds and nine points from Shania Warren who also had four assists. Linda Moore and Kenadee Jenkins each scored ten points.
The win sets up the two 3A regional champions in the title game with Star Valley (18-4) taking on Worland (24-1). The Lady Warriors are 0-1 lifetime in the state title game with a loss to Douglas in 2014. The Lady Braves have won nine state titles in 13 state title games with their last title coming in 2013.
