It was a full house at SVHS as the Lady Braves and Braves hosted their counterparts from Jackson Hole High School.
The varsity girls kept the Lady Broncs winless on the season with a 54-15 final that was out of hand early on. Savannah Lucero finished with 20 points, Kenadee Jenkins finished with 14 and Shania Warren nearly pulled off the double-double with ten points and nine rebounds.
Star Valley improved to (13-6) overall with the win and will play the regular-season finale in Pinedale on Thursday evening.
The crowd was treated to the unfurling of five state championship banners in-between the two varsity contests as the 2016 Boys Outdoor Track & Field, 2016 Boys Cross-Country, 2016 Girls Cross-Country, 2016 Volleyball and 2016 Football teams took the floor.
The Braves and Broncs traded the lead seven times in the first two quarters before Star Valley built a nine-point lead on the opening possession of the third quarter. The Broncs were able to capitalize on Braves miscues and eventually took the lead back in the final two minutes and sealed the game at the free throw line, 51-48. It was the first win on an Afton court since the 1989-90 season for the Broncs who got 17 points from Ian Renkes. The Braves got 17 from Mason Erickson, 14 from Payton Erickson and 11 from Darren Allred.
The Braves fell to (3-16) overall but have a chance to avoid the #4 seed in the Southwest with a Thursday victory in Pinedale coupled with a Lyman win over Mountain View.
The 3A West Regional Tournament takes place in Riverton March 2-4.
