It’s become an annual tradition for the Lady Braves. An early-season loss to the Cody Fillies. For the fourth straight year, Star Valley fell to the Park County squad on the opening weekend of soccer season, 2-0 at Braves Field.
The Fillies got a pair of goals from Hannah Bailey who put the brakes on her defender and fired a beautiful upper corner slingshot in the 58th minute to give Cody the lead. Star Valley struggled to regain their composure and Bailey struck again in the 60th minute after the defense failed to clear the ball.
The good news for Star Valley fans is that the Lady Braves have had much better success against Cody, defeating them at the 3A state tournament in each of the last four seasons.
The Lady Braves junior varsity won with a 5-0 score.
The Braves could not solve the Cody defense either as they fell in a 1-0 decision. The game-winner was from John Varian in the 28th minute as the Bronc defense held Star Valley to just five shots on goal.
The Braves junior varsity defeated their Bronc counterparts, 6-0.
The Lady Braves will host the Powell Panthers with the junior varsity at 9 a.m. The varsity will follow at 10:30 a.m.
The boys games with the Panthers have been cancelled for Saturday due to deteriorating conditions in Snake River Canyon. No make-up date has yet been announced.
