Lincoln County Attorney Spencer Allred spoke with SVI’s Sarah Hale after the arraignment hearing in Kemmerer on Monday afternoon where Dereck James, “DJ” Harrison has been offered a deal which would spare him the death penalty if he accepts.
“We have worked out a plea deal in this matter provided that he plead guilty to felony murder and kidnapping,” Allred said.
One count of felony murder has the possibility of sentencing to life without the possibility of parole. Felony kidnapping has the potential of 20-22 years. Allred was frank about the idea of Harrison ever getting out of prison.
“Life without the possibility of parole in Wyoming is just that,” he said. The 20 years will be added onto that life sentence should the plea deal be accepted.”
Part of the plea deal included Harrison providing details of the crimes committed and a full and complete admission in open court.
According to Allred, a sentencing hearing will take place in Kemmerer on May 17, at 9 a.m.
Harrison has already been sentenced to no less than 30 years in Davis County Utah for his role in kidnapping five women and holding them against their will.
