After ten days without a match the Star Valley soccer teams returned to action on Tuesday afternoon as they hosted Pinedale High School in Southwest District play.
The Lady Braves jumped out early with a goal from Riley Haderlie in the 5th minute. Stephanie Strang placed a perfect corner kick and Rili Luthi put the ball in the net in the 13th minute for a 2-0 Star Valley lead which lasted until the final minutes of the half. Maylee Thompson then put on a dribbling clinic as she finished left foot in the 37th minute and a 3-0 halftime advantage.
Thompson and Luthi each scored again in a 5-o Star Valley victory which moved them to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the district. They face off against Riverton on the road Friday with a chance to sweep Southwest play and earn an auto seed to the 3A state tournament in Sheridan.
The Braves and Wranglers played scoreless for more than half an hour before sophomore Gerson Lozano scored on a series of beautiful moves to the net. Noah Hutchinson kept dropping mortar rounds into the box on a series of corner kicks as Star Valley led 2-0 at the break including a converted header by Lozano.
Jayden Nelson beat the keeper one and one in the opening moments of the second half for a 3-0 score as the rain and the temperature started to fall. Jantzen Isaacson scored from the right angle for a 4-0 lead and Andrew Jeske would not be denied as he fought off the Pinedale defense for a goal in the 69th minute. Finally, Hutchinson put a rifle shot into the upper right corner for a the 6-0 final as the Braves improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the Southwest. They will also face Riverton on the road for a chance to win the Southwest.
