Kemmerer, Wyoming – Monument staff, volunteers and community partners will host an open house from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Fossil Butte National Monument visitor center. This event celebrates the grand opening of a new diorama exhibit showcasing historic and modern fossil quarrying techniques.
The exhibit highlights the careers of Lee Craig and David C. Haddenham who were early full-time fossil quarriers from the 1890s to the 1950s, and displays the similarities and differences between historic and modern collecting techniques. The exhibit also shows the relationships between new fossil discoveries by commercial quarry operators and scientific publications.
Light refreshments will be served, and parking is limited, so please carpool if possible. For more information on current conditions, summer Ranger Led programs, and updates on park activities, visit www.nps.gov/fobu, call 307-877-4455, or follow FossilButteNPS on social media.
