The Lander girls defeated Star Valley 3-1 last season on the Tiger field. It was the only two-goal loss the Lady Braves suffered last season. The Braves lost to Lander twice last season, including a 3-1 loss to open the 2014 3A State Tournament in Jackson.
Both Star Valley team qualified for the state tournament and will now play for 3rd place in the 3A West.
Both Star Valley basketball teams will be trying to extend their season Saturday at the 3A West Regional Tournament. Both teams were in a similar situation last season and both won to earn a trip to state and eventually came home with trophies from the culminating event.
Both Star Valley teams will be battling in the semi-finals on Friday night to try and qualify for the 3A state tournament and also advance to the 3A West Regional Championship game.
The SVHS basketball teams will be trying to qualify for the 3A state tournament next week in Casper as they open up regional play this evening in Lander.
The Lady Braves will be looking for a win after a close 34-31 loss to Powell on Friday night while the Braves will be trying to keep up the momentum after defeating the Panthers 56-50.
The Lady Panthers defeated their Star Valley counterparts three times last season, the first time the PHS girl’s team has beaten the Lady Braves three times in a season since 1998-99. The boys varsity team defeated Powell three out of four times last season with the last meeting in the 3A 3rd place game in Casper.
The SVHS basketball teams have a full home slate of games this weekend as they host Pinedale and Lyman.
The Braves battle the Red Devils tonight on the wrestling mat with matches beginning at 5 p.m. These matches will be uploaded and archived at this same location.
